In Quest of Fundy Gems
The history of Bay of Fundy Gems goes back a long way, indeed to the very first European explorers. For in the early 1600's the French explorer Pierre du Gua, the “Sieur de Mons”, the founder of Port Royal, gathered amethyst from Partridge Island near Parrsboro on the Bay of Fundy, had it cut and set by a Paris jeweller, and presented it to King Henry IV of France as an indication of the riches to be found in the New World.
On this tour your guide Brian Hebert teaches you how these gemstones formed in ancient lava flows and how to identify many different varieties. You'll soon discover why visitors have been searching for and collecting these beautiful gemstones for over two hundred years.
